The best way to install smoke detectors and fire alarms
Did you know that very few people are aware that, as a minimum requirement, every sleeping room is supposed to have smoke detectors? That every commercial building must have fire alarms and smoke detectors?
The Ghana National Service is supposed to do a lot of educational activities to educate the public about all these but that doesn’t seem to be the situation.
Installing your smoke detector correctly – and making sure they are in working order – is an important step to making your home and family, and also your work places safer from fire.
Furthermore, Fire research has demonstrated that with today’s modern furnishings, fires can spread much more rapidly than in the past when more natural materials were used.
This is the more reason why you should make sure that your smoke detectors are properly installed. Usually getting a professional is the best way to install fire alarms, fire hydrants and panels but for smoke detectors, you will be fine with the steps.
FNJ Investments is one of the best fire hydrants, alarms, and panels installers that we have in the country right now and it will do a lot of good to contact them if you need your fire alarms, hydrants, and panels installed properly.
Though my absolute recommendation is to get a professional for your fire hydrants, fire alarms, and panels, below are steps on how to install your smoke detectors properly.
Firstly, put new batteries into the detector if needed. Battery-powered detectors can be installed anywhere.
Secondly, separate the unit from the frame.
Thirdly, decide on a place on the ceiling or on the wall 4-10 inches from the ceiling to mount the smoke detector. Install away from air ducts.
Fourthly, Mark with a pencil where the screws will go.
firth, Drill the holes for the screws
sixth, Insert expanding plastic sleeve anchors and gently tap with a hammer.
Seventh, place the detector mount and secure it with screws.
Eighth, attach the smoke detector unit onto the mounted frame.
The last but not the least, push the testing button to make sure that it works. Replace batteries when needed.
It’s a lot easier when it’s with smoke detectors and in homes but for commercial places, I highly recommend you call a professional. It’s a lot more complicated in installing fire alarms, hydrants and panels in commercial places.
